Who is Galina?

Hi, I’m Galina! I’m a Seattle-based artist and musician, with a deep love for postcards, photography, and mixed media arts. Currently, I turn small moments worth keeping into postcards and prints, wherever I find myself to be.

Most of my life, I grew up on the east coast in the Washington, DC, area before finding my home in the Pacific Northwest seven years ago. I’ve been a musician and artist since the ripe age of four, and somewhere along the way, I fell in love with the art of the personal note. Finding the perfect card for someone, filling it with what they love, and sending it off, without expecting anything in return, is a very joyful and calming ritual for me. I love to sit down early in the morning with a pot of tea, be present, and write a quick note, and send it off from where I am. It’s like sending a snapshot in time, especially when I’m traveling. Snail mail is a beautiful and slowly reviving art form, and I’m so delighted to be a part of the journey to bring it back.

My work lives at the intersection of photography, music, and mixed media - I find the themes of nostalgia and presence in constant, productive tension through all of my work. I have currently been exploring expression through my own photography and artistry paired with animation, custom sound, and handmade elements.

I draw inspiration from a multicultural life: russian-born, East Coast-raised, PNW-rooted, and married into a Pakistani family. I find that seeing people through the lens of their intersectionality of their life is one of the most touching things we can do. I support local artists and community efforts, because I believe in giving back to those whose shoulders we stand on.

Favorite color? Sage green, and I’m not sorry about it. PNW has expanded my perception of the color green and I’ve acquired many additional green colored pencils to accurately portray each shade. I’ve also spilled salsa on just about every green article of clothing I own.

Lately, I’m contributing to Postcrossing, collecting postcards from all 50 states, diving deep into the PNW lore, and hunting down regional postmarks and the stories behind them. And very soon, my first drop - a small, limited collection of some of these moments, which in turn will make a small imprint on your life.

If any of this resonates with you further, and you’d like to collaborate, I’d love to connect.
